South Bend Businesses are finding solutions for homelessness downtown

SOUTH BEND — Business owners in South Bend are taking the next step in trying to solve homelessness in the city.
They’re confiding in a homeless solutions consultant to help.

Tom Rebman, with Homeless and Hungry, has helped cities like Daytona Beach, Orlando and even Elkhart with their homeless problem.
Now, he’s looking to the community to help with the solution.

A few months ago, Leo Priemer with Edward Jones, formed a group to discuss the issue of homelessness in South Bend.

“We had people sleeping on the streets. There was the issue of the tent city under the viaduct. There was a lot of pan handling and not just on the street corners but you know with people especially coming down the street and knocking on our doors and stuff so,” said Priemer.
