Seeking shelter: Why Central Louisiana’s homeless population is increasing

A recent release from the Louisiana Housing Corporation indicates homelessness in the state has declined by 68 percent since 2009, but in Central Louisiana, the number of homeless residents is rising.

Despite the numbers, Central Louisiana Homeless Coalition (CLHC) Executive Director Kendra Gauthier said she is working to ensure each person in Central Louisiana has access to stable homes.

The coalition works to identify, advocate and mobilize community resources, and Gauthier considers CLHC to be a “one-stop shop” for homeless citizens.
