BEVERLY — Religious leaders will put a spotlight on homelessness on the North Shore this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, exploring causes and possible solutions at a forum at the First Baptist Church in Beverly.
A five-member panel including those who work to address homelessness, as well as those who have struggled with it, is planned for 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at the church, at 221 Cabot St.
While MLK Day may not seem the most obvious of times to discuss the issue, King was the main organizer of the Poor People’s Campaign, which aimed to bring awareness to the struggles of the poor of all races. It was active in late 1967 and into 1968 to demand justice, even after King was assassinated on April 4, 1968.
