“ I know many people, me included, are reluctant to help a homeless person with a money handout. The reasons being that the city frowns upon it, or the thought that the person receiving the money walks away with it to buy drugs or liquor. That’s often my thought, and why I often try to contribute in other ways. But the other day, I was in Walmart and a young man, about the age of my sons, approached me and asked if I could give him money for food. Because he brought out my mother instinct, I didn’t hesitate to reach into my purse for a few dollars. Before I got it out, he asked if I also had money for a blanket, that he’d slept in the cold the night before. At that point, I was a little leery of giving him the money, but I did anyway. I gave him a $20 and said, “You can get a blanket here for $10.” He thanked me, asked for a hug, and walked away. I was 90 percent sure he’d disappear and be drinking somewhere with my $20. After I’d paid for my items, I was walking out of the store and I saw him sitting at a table in the Subway, enjoying a meal, with his new blanket in a bag on the table beside him. ” -Kelli
“ During 1916 my husband were down town doing some business in the 200 block on Central Avr, we could not get the parking meter to work at all. We were really trying everything. Due to the fact that a parking ticket would probably cost us $10.00 to $20.00 dollars my husband was ready to try to pull it out of the concrete. I happened to see a gentleman walking over to us. He asked if he could be of any help. We said yes if you know how to work this *** thing. He said that he thought he could get it to work. He took our credit card and behold that dumb meter accepted our card and then returned it to us. We chatted with the gentleman for a few minutes and offered to give him a tip for helping us. He refused but my husband put some money in his hand and thanked him for helping us. The gentleman continued going down the walk to the West. Oh, I forgot to tell you that nice polite gentleman was homeless.” This was sent to us and we wanted to share it with you, too. -Angenique
“I used to judge the homeless until I became homeless myself, they were the only ones who helped me out when I needed a hand up. I will never look at another homeless person the same way ever again. God Bless them all.” -Victoria
